Website Development

Reflections on new technology development

Drupal mastered?

I have been using Drupal for a couple months now and I am beginning to feel like I really "get" how to use it, customize it, and generally make it do what I want (and I want a lot of things!). Suffice it to say that I'm really enjoying the product. Over the holidays I was in Montréal and learning a lot of French. I had nothing to take notes on so I started using Drupal on my phone. To my surprise nearly everything worked. You can follow my poorly written French at http://www.coteouest.ca.

New things on the way...

This has been a long time coming! I'm going to replace this blog with Drupal, my choice for web development. I say a long time coming because this blog, using Nanoblogger, is getting quite limiting and it makes things like spell checking really difficult for me (and we all know I have trouble spelling at times).

So if you're still reading my feed hang in there, I will transition everything over when the site is complete. I'm hoping to have something together by 2009!

Happy holidays...

The Drupal notebook

Setting up a Drupal site involves a few steps:
1. Get the Drupal packages and configure the site (databases, etc).
2. Move boxes around, adding new boxes
3. Sort the menus to a logical order
4. Create base categories
5. Adjust templates to include a new category selector
6. Getting modules to address missing functionality
7. Repeat steps 3-6

CSS Updated

The templates were easy to modify, same process as with any site. Using the Firefox Web Developer toolbar to see my changes and then following up with changes in the theme's code base.
